One of my favorite passages that I like to use at a time of death is from John 14 where Jesus promises us the gift of peace as he says, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27, NIV)

The reason I like this is because often when we are losing or just lost a loved one - peace is what we need just to move from one day to the next; but here is the good news – that same peace is also offered to us daily when it just seems like part of us is dying spiritually or emotionally as well.

So my prayer is we get to know this source of peace – Jesus – and claim the gift that he has to offer us as our own.
