When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” (John 21:15, NIV)

My favorite character in the movie UP is the talking dog “Dug.”  Dug is a sweet, loving dog who often means well, but is easily distracted by things in life like squirrels.

We can laugh, but we too often get distracted by the many “squirrels” (distractions) in our own lives that take our focus off the one who loves us most – Jesus.  And, when we do, Jesus asks us just as he asked Peter, “Do YOU love me more than these?” In other words, do we love Jesus or the stuff around us.

Jesus invites us to love him, to live for him, to follow him, so may we follow him and not the “squirrels” of our lives that seek to lead us astray.
