During the 90’s Tombstone Pizza had a commercial series that went like this:
Before one was to be executed, the question would be asked by person A? “Any last words?” With which person B would respond by saying, “No.”
Person A would then say, “Well, then what would you like on your tombstone?
Person B would pause and then say, “pepperoni and cheese.”
While it was commercial, and while it was comedy, the question asked was legitimate - not as much as what do we want on our tombstone, but what do we want people to say about us or remember us by when we are gone? In other words, what difference did we make in the lives of others in the world around us?
In the scripture there is this woman who offered Jesus an extravagant gift of love, and he told those around him that what she had done would be remembered and shared for years to come.
Like the woman, my prayer is that the world will also remember us by our acts of love shared with others.
