Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. (Colossians 3:15, NIV)
Paul writes to the church of Colossae instructing them to let peace rule in their hearts. He says as followers of Christ – as Christians – they were called to peace.
Though the words were penned almost 2000 years ago, they still ring true. We too are called to peace, and to a world that often knows only violence, hate, and retaliation. We are called to stand in contrast to the world - we are called to peace.
Christ himself said to his followers – “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.”(John 14:27, NIV)
So as his followers, may we claim the gift Christ offers us and find ways to live peace in the world around us.
Trust me – the world needs peace.
