“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. (Matthew 6: 5-8, NIV)
So which is it – eyes open or eyes closed; spoken or unspoken; sitting, standing or kneeling; hands together, palms open or arms raised; or are there even special words?
Do you ever get confused or ask how do you pray?
Well I am going to keep it simple today, for when you pray I want you to talk to God just as you would anyone else whom you really loved or wanted to get to know better. Of course if the other things help you keep focused on praying to God - then do them, but otherwise I just want us to grow in our prayer life and it begins by talking and listening to God.
So…let us pray (let us talk and listen) to the one who loves us most - God!
