About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose. (Acts 16:25-26)

Here is Paul and Silas.  They had planned on starting their day in prayer, but instead of prayer they get hauled before the magistrates, stripped of their clothes, beaten, and put in the inner most cell with their feet placed in stocks.

To the world it seemed as if Paul and Silas were beaten, yet they don’t lose heart. Instead even here in the worst of circumstances they are found praying and singing hymns. In fact they are being a witness to those around them.

And what does God do? God answer their prayers – God breaks the chains that binds them.

I share this for us so that we may never lose heart – continue to pray and worship God because God longs to also break whatever chains that binds you.
