Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister. (1 John 4: 20-21, NIV)

One of the things that is troubling as a pastor is when I hear people say they hate or can’t stand a person or a group of people.  Of all places where hate shouldn’t be found is within the walls of the church and within the lives of those who claim to be Christians.

As Christians we are called to love. In fact John says – if we can’t love those whom we can see – those who have been created in the image of God  - how can they really love God; especially since God calls us to love God and to love others.

So may we love as we are loved.
